Description

This second hand guitar amp is in great condition.

The Boss Katana Mini is a compact, budget-friendly amp that delivers surprisingly big tones in a small package. Whether you need a practice amp, a travel-friendly companion, or just a simple grab-and-go solution, the Katana Mini punches well above its weight class, offering Boss’s signature Katana sound in a portable format.

Build Quality & Design

At just 7 watts and weighing under 3 lbs, the Katana Mini is an ultra-portable amp that runs on batteries or a power adapter, making it ideal for jamming anywhere. Despite its small size, it features a solid build with a rugged plastic casing that feels durable enough for regular use. The control layout is simple, featuring three amp modes (Brown, Crunch, Clean), a 3-band EQ, and a built-in delay—all impressive features for an amp this compact.

The angled design makes it easy to project sound even when placed on the floor or a desk, and the top-mounted controls are straightforward and easy to use.

Tone & Sound Quality

For such a small amp, the Katana Mini sounds remarkably full and natural. The three amp voicings cover a decent range of tones:

  • Clean – Clear and warm, great for jazz, blues, and crisp arpeggios.
  • Crunch – Slightly overdriven, perfect for classic rock and blues.
  • Brown – High-gain distortion inspired by the legendary Boss Waza amp, ideal for metal and hard rock.

The built-in tape-style delay adds a nice touch, making solos and leads sound more spacious. The 3-band EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble) is a welcome addition, allowing you to shape your tone more effectively than many other small practice amps.

While it won’t shake the room with volume, the Katana Mini is surprisingly loud for its size, and it maintains clarity even when cranked up. It won’t replace a full-sized amp for gigging, but for home practice, busking, or quiet jam sessions, it’s more than capable.

Portability & Battery Life

One of the biggest selling points of the Katana Mini is its battery operation—it runs for up to 7 hours on six AA batteries, making it great for playing outdoors or in places without a power outlet. This makes it a fantastic option for travel, small gatherings, or even backstage warm-ups.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Excellent tone for its size
  • Three versatile amp modes (Clean, Crunch, Brown)
  • 3-band EQ and built-in delay
  • Compact, lightweight, and battery-powered for portability
  • Affordable price

Cons:

  • No built-in reverb or modulation effects
  • No footswitch capability
  • Limited volume/output (not suitable for band practice or gigs)

The Boss Katana Mini is one of the best ultra-portable practice amps available today. It offers great tone, versatility, and portability at an affordable price. While it won’t replace a full-sized amp for serious gigs, it’s perfect for home practice, travel, and small jam sessions.

If you need a tiny amp with surprisingly big tone, the Katana Mini is a fantastic choice.
