The 3 best intermediate violins

So you’re no longer a beginner, you’ve put the time in and can now play violin. You’re an intermediate player and you need a better violin! Here’s our choice of the 3 best intermediate violins here at Reidys Home of Music.

Hidersine Venezia

Each Venezia violin is unique, genuinely hand carved from maple and spruce by Hidersine’s luthiers. Fitted with Ebony fingerboard, pegs and chin rest. Deliberately antiqued using clever techniques developed over many years. The slight pitting and wear marks are intricately done with a skilled hand. Each violin is finished off with a rouge brown oil varnish, the most traditional of varnish finishes. The result is a beautifully crafted violin with wonderful patina.

The outfit comes with a Oblong Styrofoam Case with accessory compartment and music pocket. A premium, Fully-Mounted Bow with Ebony Frog. Hidersine’s own very responsive synthetic gut strings and rosin.

This superb craftsmanship together with outstanding choice of tonewoods makes it one of our favourite violins at Reidys.  It’s so well made and so well set up. With its high grade solid spruce top, figured maple back and sides, as the wood ages the violin’s tone will improve.  This is a wonderfully sounding violin. The more you play it, the better it gets.

Stentor Verona

The Verona is cut from solid maple and spruce and comes with ebony fingerboard and pegs. Fitted with a Wittner tailpiece, an Aubert bridge, Pirastro Tonica strings and nicely finished with a dark antiqued varnish. Sold as a full outfit which includes a lightweight case and a full silver mounted brazilwood bow with mother of pearl inlay, whale bone effect lapping and parisienne eye.

Stentor have pitched the Verona in between the popular Conservatoire and Messina violins. It’s a really good violin and in our opinion offers great value and deserves to be equally as popular as the aforementioned violins. It is a really good instrument and a popular choice as one of our intermediate violins.

Stentor Messina

Finally, probably the pick of our intermediate violins, The Messina. Along with the Elysia and the Arcadia violin, it is made in Stentor’s high grade violin workshop. Here the most skilled individual workers produce under the close supervision of a master violin maker.
Carved from high grade spruce and highly figured maple, with ebony fingerboard and pegs. There are no shortcuts to making this violin, no power tools, just skilled workers using traditional hand tools. The Messina is made in much the same way that violins have been made by hand in Europe for hundreds of years. The result is a fine violin with a very responsive even tone that the progressing student will really appreciate.

This violin also comes fitted with Pirastro Tonica, synthetic gut strings as standard. It is available on its own, or a full outfit
