The Peavey International Series Grind V Bass is a neck‑through, five‑string workhorse that delivers deep lows, solid sustain, and impressive value for players seeking a versatile instrument without boutique pricing.
The Grind V (5‑string) bass sits within Peavey’s International Series, designed to balance affordability with professional features. It’s often praised for its neck‑through construction, which is rare at its price point, and for its ability to handle modern low‑end demands while remaining comfortable to play.
Key Features
- Construction: Neck‑through design with mahogany body wings and a mahogany neck (often with maple stringers for added stability).
- Scale Length: 35" scale, ideal for keeping the low B string tight and articulate.
- Fingerboard: 24‑fret rosewood fingerboard with acrylic dot inlays.
- Pickups: Dual passive humbuckers (ceramic loaded), delivering punchy lows and clear mids.
- Electronics: Some models feature active EQ systems with treble boost, master volume, and blend controls.
- Hardware: Die‑cast bridge with string‑through body option, 19:1 ratio tuners, and Peavey’s dual‑action torsion rod for neck stability.
Sound & Performance
- Low End: The Grind V excels at producing a beastly low end thanks to its all‑mahogany construction.
- Versatility: Passive humbuckers give a warm, rounded tone, while active EQ models allow sculpting for funk, rock, or metal.
- Playability: The slim neck and sculpted heel make upper‑fret access easy, while the 35" scale ensures clarity on the low B.
- Sustain: Neck‑through design and Peavey’s PowerPlate (on later models) enhance sustain and reduce dead spots.
The Peavey International Series Grind V Bass is a hidden gem for bassists who want professional features without breaking the bank. Its neck‑through build, extended scale, and solid tonal foundation make it ideal for rock, metal, and funk players who rely on a strong low end. The Grind V punches well above its price class and remains a reliable choice for gigging musicians.
