Description
Description
The Ozark 2222 is an all‑solid flat‑back bouzouki constructed with a solid spruce top and solid maple back and sides, featuring a slotted headstock and four courses of double strings in a long scale format (≈660 mm). It’s designed primarily for Irish, Celtic, folk and acoustic jamming, and is especially accessible to guitarists and mandolin players thanks to its familiar tuning options.
👍 Pros
🎸 Rich, Clear Acoustic Tone
The spruce top gives a bright, articulate sound with good note clarity and sustain, while the maple body adds warmth and balance — ideal for folk and trad styles. Many owners find it rings out beautifully in open‑back configuration.
🎼 Comfortable for Guitar & Mandolin Players
Standard tunings like E‑A‑D‑G or G‑D‑A‑D make it easier to pick up if you already play guitar or mandolin — you don’t have to learn completely new scales.
🧰 All‑Solid Construction
It uses solid tonewoods (spruce top, maple back/sides) throughout, which generally gives richer resonance and better dynamic response than laminate alternatives in this price range.
🪕 Good Size and Scale
The ~660 mm scale and 23 frets provide ample range and string tension for traditional bouzouki playing without feeling cramped — great for melodic leads and rhythm parts alike.
💼 Great Value for the Money
Considering the solid woods, hardware quality and classic design, this model often scores positive user feedback about quality and tone at its price point.
👎 Cons
🔧 Setup May Vary
Like many mid‑range imported instruments, the action, intonation or nut height can vary between units — a light professional setup can greatly improve playability and tuning accuracy.
🎶 Tone Isn’t Boutique‑Level
While good for most folk contexts, the acoustic timbre doesn’t match high‑end handmade bouzoukis in richness, nuance and projection — especially noticeable in large ensemble or unamplified concert settings.
