This second hand electric guitar amp is in great condition
The Boss Katana 100 2x12 Gen 3 is the most gig-ready, fuller‑sounding, and professionally flexible Katana yet. It keeps the Katana DNA, plug‑and‑play ease, huge value, and versatile tones, but adds noticeably improved amp feel, more organic gain, better dynamics, and the new Pushed voicing that finally gives the Katana a proper edge‑of‑breakup sweet spot. The 2x12 format makes it feel like a small half‑stack without the hassle.
The Katana 100 is 100‑watt solid‑state combo with dual 12 inch speakers, updated amp models, improved reactive feel, expanded effects, and USB audio. It’s designed as a do‑everything workhorse for gigging, home practice, and recording.
Tone & Feel
1. The new “Pushed” amp type is the star
This is the biggest tonal upgrade in Gen 3.
It gives you:
- A proper edge‑of‑breakup response
- Better pick sensitivity
- A more tube‑like sag when you dig in
- A sweet, blues‑rock crunch that Gen 1/2 never quite nailed
If you’ve ever tried to coax that “just breaking up” tone from older Katanas, this fixes it.
2. Core amp types feel more alive
All five core voicings, Clean, Crunch, Lead, Brown, Acoustic—have been reworked.
The improvements you actually hear:
- Clean is less sterile, more chime and bloom
- Crunch is tighter and more articulate
- Lead has smoother mids and less fizz
- Brown is more controlled and less harsh at high gain
- Acoustic is more natural and less “piezo quack”
3. The 2x12 cabinet makes a real difference
Compared to the 1x12:
- Bigger low end
- Wider stereo‑like spread (even though it’s mono)
- More headroom
- Feels more like a stage amp than a practice combo
Features & Usability
Power Control
The 0.5W / 50W / 100W switch is still one of the best features on any amp.
Gen 3 feels more consistent across the settings—less tone loss at low power.
Effects
Boss added more modern FX and improved the modulation algorithms.
You now get:
- Better reverbs (especially the “Studio” and “Spring”)
- More usable delays
- Modulation that feels less digital and more dimensional
- The ability to run multiple effects simultaneously without menu diving
USB Audio
Cleaner, quieter, and more stable than Gen 2.
Great for home recording—no interface needed.
Editor Software
Still not the prettiest, but more intuitive and less fiddly.
Build Quality
Typical Boss: built like a tank.
- Solid cabinet
- Rugged knobs and switches
- Reliable footswitch integration
- Dual speakers feel properly mounted and not rattly
Real‑World Use
Home
- Quiet practice with great tone
- USB recording
- Power control makes it neighbour‑friendly
Studio
- Direct recording is cleaner
- Reverbs and delays are studio‑grade
- Pushed + Clean tones are more mix‑ready
Live
This is where the 2x12 shines:
- Enough volume for any pub/club stage
- Cuts through a mix better than the 1x12
- Takes pedals well
- Consistent sound night after night
The Boss Katana 100 2x12 Gen 3 is the best Katana yet and arguably the best all‑rounder amp under £500 in the UK. The new Pushed mode and improved dynamics finally give it the “amp feel” players wanted, and the 2x12 format makes it a legitimate gigging machine.
If you want one amp that can cover home, studio, and stage without fuss, this is the one.
