This second hand guitar amp is in good condition - some scuffs etc. to the covering, but over all OK
The Sessionette 75 is a classic solid-state guitar amplifier from the 1980s, well-regarded for its tube-like warmth, reliability, and gig-friendly versatility. Designed by Session, a British company, the amp quickly became a favorite among working musicians for its ability to deliver tube-like tones without the fragility and high maintenance of actual valve amps.
Sound & Tone
One of the standout features of the Sessionette 75 is its warm, dynamic response, which was uncommon for solid-state amps of its time. It features two channels—a clean and an overdrive—both of which are surprisingly musical. The clean channel is full, articulate, and retains clarity even at higher volumes, making it ideal for jazz, blues, and country players. The overdrive channel delivers a thick, saturated distortion that can range from bluesy crunch to full-on rock tones. While it may not fully replicate the magic of a valve amp, it comes impressively close, especially when cranked up.
Build Quality & Features
The amp is built like a tank, making it great for gigging musicians who need durability. It features a single 12-inch speaker (Celestion models in later versions) and 75 watts of power, making it loud enough for small to medium-sized venues. The 3-band EQ is responsive, allowing for a good range of tonal shaping. One of its signature features is the "mid-shift" control, which enhances the amp’s ability to cut through a mix.
Modern Use & Mods
Though discontinued, the Sessionette 75 remains a cult classic among players looking for vintage British solid-state tones. Some owners opt for "RetroTone" modifications, which upgrade the amp’s components to further improve warmth and dynamics, making it even more valve-like in response.
The Sessionette 75 is a hidden gem in the world of solid-state amplifiers, offering an affordable yet surprisingly rich alternative to valve amps. If you can find one in good condition, it’s well worth considering—especially if you love British-voiced rock and blues tones with the reliability of solid-state technology.
