The 2010 Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro occupies a unique place in Gibson's modern line-up. Built exclusively for selected retailers, it blends the timeless looks and feel of a traditional Les Paul with a handful of modern features that make it one of the most versatile guitars of its era. Finished in the stunning Heritage Cherry Sunburst, it captures the classic Burst aesthetic while offering practical upgrades that appeal to working musicians.

More than a decade after its release, the 2010 Traditional Pro has become something of a hidden gem on the second-hand market, offering premium Gibson craftsmanship with added tonal flexibility.

Sound Quality

The Traditional Pro delivers everything you expect from a great Les Paul. Its mahogany body with a carved maple top produces a rich, resonant voice with exceptional sustain, while the set mahogany neck contributes warmth and depth.

The guitar is fitted with Gibson Burstbucker pickups, which deliver vintage-inspired PAF tones with plenty of clarity and dynamic response. Clean settings reveal sparkling highs and warm, articulate lows, while overdriven sounds produce the thick midrange growl that has made the Les Paul a staple of rock, blues and classic hard rock for decades. Burstbucker pickups are renowned for recreating the open, expressive character of late-1950s humbuckers.

One of the standout features is the push-pull coil splitting, allowing each humbucker to produce convincing single-coil-style tones. This dramatically expands the guitar's versatility, making it equally at home playing blues, country, indie and funk alongside heavier rock styles.

Playability

Unlike many Traditional models with chunky necks, the 2010 Traditional Pro features a comfortable SlimTaper neck profile. This makes fast lead playing easier while still retaining enough substance to feel unmistakably like a Les Paul.

The rosewood fingerboard, 12-inch radius and medium jumbo frets provide effortless bends and smooth vibrato, while the familiar 24.75-inch scale length delivers the slinky playing feel that Gibson players love.

The guitar balances beautifully on a strap and feels reassuringly substantial without becoming uncomfortable during longer performances.

Build Quality

As expected from Gibson's Nashville production during this period, the Traditional Pro is built to a very high standard. The nitrocellulose lacquer finish allows the wood to resonate naturally and ages gracefully over time, developing character with regular playing.

The Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish is particularly eye-catching, showing off the figured maple top while remaining faithful to the classic Les Paul appearance. Quality hardware, Grover locking tuners on many examples and the dependable Tune-o-Matic bridge ensure excellent tuning stability and reliable performance. Gibson's Les Paul construction continues to combine premium tonewoods with traditional hardware and craftsmanship.

Real-World Performance

The Traditional Pro excels both on stage and in the studio. The coil-splitting feature provides a wider palette of sounds than a standard Les Paul, reducing the need to switch guitars between songs.

Many consider it one of Gibson's best value used Les Pauls. Its combination of classic tone, comfortable neck profile and versatile electronics has helped it develop a loyal following among gigging musicians and collectors alike.

Pros

  • Classic Les Paul tone with outstanding sustain
  • Beautiful Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish
  • Comfortable SlimTaper neck profile
  • Burstbucker pickups deliver authentic vintage-inspired tones

The 2010 Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro Heritage Cherry Sunburst successfully bridges the gap between vintage tradition and modern versatility without sacrificing the character that has made the Les Paul one of the world's most iconic electric guitars.

Whether you're a blues player, classic rocker, session guitarist or collector, the Traditional Pro offers exceptional tone, superb craftsmanship and a feature set that remains highly relevant today. For anyone shopping the used market, it represents one of the smartest Les Paul purchases you can make.
