Description

This second hand bass is in very good condition

Made in Korea 1990s reissue model. one light scratch in the lacquer on the back.

  • The JetStar began life in the 1960s under Guild as a solid body bass with a very distinctive, almost “melting” or Dali-esque, offset body.

  • In more recent decades, DeArmond (a brand / line related to Guild) produced reissues in Korea in the ’90s. These reissues preserve much of the styling of the originals, with some changes.

Body / Shape / Scale / Materials

  • The JetStar bass has a very unusual body shape: offset double cutaways, somewhat stylised, with a lot of character visually.

  • Scale length on the older originals was short: ~30½ inches.

  • Many of the reissues keep that short-scale design.

Hardware & Electronics

  • Pickups: often two single coils (or variants thereof) in reissue models.

  • Controls: generally simple but functional.

  • Nut / string spacing tends to be a bit narrow compared with e.g. classic Fender P-bass / Jazz spacing.

Tone & Sound

  • The pickups deliver a decent range. The bridge pickup gives a sharper bite, good attack, some single coil character; neck pickup is more mellow, darker, smoother. Combine both and you can get a blend with decent clarity and interest.

  • Some owners remark that the tone reminds them of a short-scale Jazz bass or even a “51P” vibe in certain settings, though obviously the JetStar has its own flavour.

  • In clean settings the bass can sparkle; with overdrive or in a band mix it cuts through well. Because of its build, there’s warmth, but it does not get super thick like a large humbucker bass might. It’s more about clarity and character.

The JetStar Bass is very much a “character instrument.” It’s not going to replace, say, a classic Fender P-Bass or vintage Gibson Thunderbird in every situation, but it’s a lot of fun, and does some things very well. If you value style, comfort (especially on shorter scales), and a bass with personality more than you value maximum low-end weight, this could be right up your alley. For many players it becomes a second (or even primary) bass precisely because its colour and vibe are so different
