FlyBigGuy Custom Handmade Explorer Style Bass

This handmade bass is in very good condition, and also includes a hard case.

This one-of-a-kind Flybigguy bass guitar is a bespoke, custom-handmade instrument inspired by the distinctive body shape of the iconic Gibson and Epiphone Explorer designs. Created as a unique build rather than a standard production model, it offers something genuinely different from the usual bass guitars on the market. Its Explorer-inspired styling gives it a striking, unconventional appearance, making it an interesting choice for players looking for an instrument with an individual identity. As a one-off custom build, there is no other bass exactly like it.

A particularly notable feature of this instrument is its MEC pickups. MEC, short for Music Electronic Company, is a recognised manufacturer of bass guitar pickups and electronic components, particularly well known for its association with Warwick bass guitars. MEC has developed a range of pickup designs for electric bass, with different configurations suited to different tonal requirements and playing styles. Its pickups are designed to capture the vibrations of the strings and translate them into an electrical signal, forming a fundamental part of the instrument's amplified sound.

MEC pickups are found in a variety of configurations, including passive and active designs, with options such as single-coil, hum-cancelling and humbucker-style pickups across the manufacturer's range. Depending on the particular model fitted, these designs can offer different combinations of tonal warmth, clarity, output and note definition. Pickup design and construction influence how the bass responds to playing dynamics, how clearly individual notes can be heard, and how the instrument's sound sits within a band's overall mix. MEC's longstanding association with Warwick has also made the brand familiar to bass players who value purpose-designed bass electronics.

The presence of MEC pickups adds an interesting specification to this bespoke instrument, combining recognised bass electronics with a custom-made design. For players who appreciate unusual instruments and want something beyond the familiar shapes offered by mainstream manufacturers, this Flybigguy bass presents a rare opportunity to own a distinctive, individually made instrument with its own character and Explorer-inspired styling.
