Description
Description
This second hand electric guitar is in good condition.
All plays fine. A chip out the headstock , a couple of small dents in the cutaway, and some scuffing of the finish on the body.
The Ibanez RG421EX is one of those guitars that quietly over‑delivers. It sits in the affordable end of the RG lineup, but it carries enough of the classic Ibanez DNA, speed, precision, and modern styling, to feel like a serious instrument rather than a budget compromise. If you’re after a no‑nonsense hardtail RG that’s built for riffs, fast playing, and modding potential, the 421EX is a strong contender.
Build & Construction
Key Specs:
- Meranti body
- Wizard III maple neck
- Jatoba fingerboard
- 24 jumbo frets
- Fixed bridge (Ibanez F106)
- Quantum humbuckers
- Black hardware with matching binding
The RG421EX has the familiar RG silhouette: sharp, sleek, and built for speed. The Wizard III neck is the star of the show—thin, fast, and comfortable without feeling flimsy. Ibanez consistently nails neck profiles, and this one is no exception.
The meranti body keeps the guitar lightweight, though tonally it’s closer to mahogany-lite: warm mids, slightly scooped highs, and a tight low end. Fit and finish are excellent for the price, with clean fretwork and tidy binding.
Playability
This guitar is built for players who like to move.
- The neck is fast and flat, ideal for metal, prog, and shred.
- The 24 jumbo frets make bends and legato effortless.
- The fixed bridge keeps things simple and stable—no trem maintenance, no tuning headaches.
Tone & Electronics
The RG421EX comes loaded with Ibanez Quantum pickups, which are known for being tight, articulate, and surprisingly usable for stock pickups in this price range.
Tone Character:
- Tight, fast low end
- Clear mids
- Crisp, slightly bright highs
- Good note separation under gain
The bridge pickup is aggressive enough for modern metal, djent‑leaning tones, and high‑gain rhythm work. It’s not as full or complex as premium pickups, but it’s punchy and responsive.
The neck pickup is smooth and clear for leads, though it can get a bit compressed on clean tones. Still, for stock pickups, they’re better than many competitors.
Hardware & Reliability
- F106 fixed bridge is rock‑solid and comfortable
- Tuners are stable and reliable
- Black hardware looks sharp and holds up well
- Controls are simple: 3‑way switch, volume, tone
Strengths
- Excellent neck for fast playing
- Solid build quality
- Tight, modern tone from stock pickups
- Lightweight and comfortable
- Fixed bridge = stability and simplicity
- Great platform for upgrades
The RG421EX is ideal for:
- Metal and rock players wanting a fast, reliable hardtail
- Guitarists who prefer simplicity over trem systems
- Players looking for a mod‑friendly platform
- Anyone wanting the Ibanez “feel” without the premium price
The Ibanez RG421EX is a sleek, fast, and dependable workhorse that delivers far more than its price suggests. It’s built well, plays beautifully, and offers a tight, modern tone that suits metal and progressive styles perfectly. While the stock pickups and meranti body won’t blow away tone purists, the guitar itself is a fantastic foundation—especially for players who love to mod.
