  • Scale length: 575mm

What It Is

The Ozark 2103 is a six‑string “guitar banjo” — essentially a banjo with a guitar‑style neck and standard guitar tuning. You fret and strum it just like a guitar, but the banjo head and resonator give a characteristic banjo‑ish twang. It’s aimed at beginners, guitarists curious about banjo tones, or players looking for a fun, affordable hybrid.

📌 Key Features

  • Guitar‑style neck & tuning: Mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard feels familiar to guitar players.

  • Banjo body: 11″ Remo banjo head mounted on a die‑cast one‑piece shell produces a bright, snappy sound.

  • Detachable resonator: Lets you swap between louder resonator‑style tone and fatter open‑back tone.

  • Standard guitar scale (≈575 mm): No need to learn a new fretboard layout.

  • Basic hardware: 30 plated brackets, geared machine heads — fine for casual playing.

  • Includes gig bag: Practical transport/storage accessory.

👍 Pros

🎶 Easy for Guitarists to Play
The biggest plus is that you can pick it up and play immediately with standard guitar chords and technique — no new tuning or banjo‑specific fingering to learn.

🔔 Unique Hybrid Sound
It gives a distinct banjo‑like twang while retaining the playability of a guitar. This makes it great for folk, country, blues, and acoustic jams where you want some banjo flavour without giving up familiar guitar skills.

🪕 Versatile (Resonator Detachable)
Being able to play with or without the resonator gives you a bit of tonal flexibility — louder and brighter with it on, mellower with it off.

💼 Good Value at Its Price Range
For the money, it’s a fun, well‑finished instrument that won’t break the bank if you’re experimenting or just want something different in your collection.

👎 Cons

🔊 Not a “Real” Banjo Experience
Because it’s tuned and played like a guitar, purists won’t consider it a true banjo. If you want to learn banjo styles (clawhammer or traditional bluegrass fingerpicking), this instrument doesn’t lend itself to that.

📉 Tone Is a Compromise
The tone is banjo‑like but not as bright or cutting as a pure 5‑string banjo, and not as warm or full as a good acoustic guitar. It sits somewhere in between, which some players love, others find a little thin.
