This second hand guitar effects pedal is in great condition
The EHX Bass Micro Synth is one of the most creative, chaotic, and inspiring bass pedals ever made , a true instrument within an instrument. It’s not subtle, it’s not polite, and it’s definitely not plug‑and‑play, but if you enjoy sculpting tones and pushing bass into synth‑driven territory, it’s a monster.
A fully analogue, slider‑based synth engine for bass that combines:
- Square‑wave fuzz
- Sub‑octave
- Attack/slow‑gear envelope
- Resonant filter sweep
- Mix control for dry signal
It’s essentially a mini modular synth voiced for bass, with no presets and no digital safety net.
Tone & Sound Character
1. The Square‑Wave Fuzz
- Thick, aggressive, and unmistakably EHX
- Tracks surprisingly well for an analogue circuit
- Has that vintage, buzzy synth edge rather than modern gated fuzz tightness
This is the core of the pedal’s identity , it’s the oscillator you build everything else around.
2. Sub‑Octave
- Deep, warm, and slightly loose
- Not as tight as modern digital octavers (e.g., OC‑5), but more characterful
- Adds weight and girth to the synth patch
Great for Moog‑style basslines.
3. Attack Delay
- Creates slow‑swells, bowed‑string effects, and pad‑like textures
- Works beautifully with fretless or slides
- Can be subtle or dramatic depending on the slider position
This is one of the most musical parts of the pedal.
4. Filter Sweep
- The star of the show
- Resonant, vocal, and expressive
- Capable of classic 70s synth sweeps, auto‑wah‑like quacks, or deep sub‑filter movement
You can set the sweep to go up, down, or sit in a static resonant position.
Controls & Usability
-
Sliders are extremely sensitive
A 1–2 mm movement can completely change the patch. -
No presets
If you find a killer sound, take a photo. -
Volume balancing can be tricky
The fuzz and sub‑octave can jump in level quickly. -
Tracking is analogue
Meaning: good, but not flawless. Play cleanly for best results.
Real‑World Use
Studio
- Incredible for layering synth‑like basslines
- Adds unique textures you can’t get from plugins
- Perfect for electronic, indie, post‑punk, and experimental work
Live
- Works best when you build patches around it rather than dropping it into a mix unexpectedly
- Needs careful EQ and volume matching
- Can dominate a mix in a good way if used intentionally
Content Creation
Given your goal of producing gear‑focused content, this pedal is gold:
- Visually interesting (sliders, retro look)
- Sonically dramatic
- Easy to demonstrate “before/after” transformations
Strengths
- Huge sonic range — from subtle to outrageous
- Analogue warmth and character
- Iconic filter sweeps
- A true creative tool, not just an effect
- Inspires new playing styles and riffs
Who It’s For
- Players who love sound design
- Bassists in electronic, experimental, or ambient genres
- Anyone who wants a Moog‑like synth voice without buying a synth
- Content creators who want dramatic, ear‑catching tones
The EHX Bass Micro Synth is one of the most creative bass pedals ever made. It’s quirky, imperfect, and occasionally frustrating but in the best possible way. If you enjoy gear that pushes you into new musical territory, this pedal is a masterpiece of analogue weirdness.
