Description

This second hand guitar effects pedal is in good condition. Casing is a bit scratched, but otherwise fine.

The Electro-Harmonix Screaming Bird is a straightforward treble booster that does one job exceptionally well. Originally inspired by a classic EHX design from the 1970s, the modern Nano version delivers up to 20dB of high-frequency boost, making it ideal for players who want their solos to cut through a busy mix or add extra bite to a dark-sounding amplifier.

Unlike a full-range clean boost, the Screaming Bird focuses on upper-mid and treble frequencies. This makes it particularly effective with vintage-style tube amplifiers that are already beginning to break up. Engaging the pedal tightens the low end, enhances pick attack, and gives single-coil guitars a lively, articulate edge. It is also an excellent choice for pushing a classic British-style amp into rich, harmonically complex overdrive.

The pedal has a remarkably simple layout with just a single boost control and a footswitch. There are no complicated EQ options to dial in, making it easy to achieve its signature sound. True bypass switching ensures your unaffected tone remains intact when the pedal is disengaged.

The Screaming Bird is not designed to be an always-on pedal for every rig. Into bright amplifiers or guitars with naturally sharp pickups, it can become overly piercing if used with excessive boost. Players seeking a transparent clean boost or a more versatile EQ pedal may find its focused frequency range somewhat limiting. However, used in the right context, that focused character is exactly what makes it so effective.

Build quality is excellent, with the familiar Electro-Harmonix die-cast Nano enclosure proving both compact and robust enough for regular gigging. Its small footprint also makes it easy to fit onto crowded pedalboards.

Pros

  • Excellent for pushing tube amps into natural overdrive.
  • Adds clarity, presence, and definition.
  • Simple one-knob operation.
  • Compact and rugged Nano enclosure.
  • Great value for a specialist boost pedal.

Overall, the Electro-Harmonix Screaming Bird is a niche pedal with a distinctive voice. If you love vintage rock tones, blues, or classic British amp sounds, it can transform an already great tone into something that really stands out. It may not suit every setup, but when paired with the right guitar and amplifier, it delivers sparkling highs, extra sustain, and plenty of classic character.
