Description

This second hand electric guitar is very good condition

A couple of little dents on the body, nothing major.

The 1997 Epiphone G‑400 is one of the best-value SG‑style guitars Epiphone ever produced. Built during the respected Samick Korea period, it offers surprisingly high craftsmanship, excellent neck feel, and a warm, vintage‑voiced tone that many players prefer over later Chinese‑made G‑400s.

 Body & Neck

  • Mahogany body (solid and resonant)
  • Mahogany set neck with a slim‑taper 60s profile
  • Rosewood fretboard with trapezoid inlays
  • Longer neck tenon than later models → better sustain and stability

Feel:
The neck is fast, comfortable, and more Gibson‑like than newer Epiphones. Korean fretwork from this era is consistently better than the early 2000s Chinese runs

Tone & Electronics

Tone Character:

  • Warm, mid‑forward SG sound
  • Smooth top end
  • Not overly hot—more vintage than modern
  • Responds well to tube amps and overdrive pedals

Pros

  • Grover‑style tuners
  • Decent bridge & tailpiece for the era
  • Good nut slots compared to later budget Epiphones

 Aesthetics & Era-Specific Details

1991 models typically feature:

  • Deep cherry SG finish
  • Small pickguard (more vintage-correct)
  • Open-book‑inspired headstock shape (before Epiphone changed it)
  • “Gibson-style” font on the truss rod cover

They look more like a classic SG than many later Epiphones.

 Strengths

  • Light weight
  • Excellent upper fret access
  • Slim, fast neck
  • Balanced body

But overall, these are very playable, even by modern standards.

The 1997 Epiphone G‑400 is a fantastic guitar for players who want:

  • A vintage‑feeling SG without Gibson prices
  • A mod‑friendly platform
  • Korean-era craftsmanship
  • Warm, classic rock tones
