Overview & Build Quality

  • This is a left-handed Les Paul Standard ’60s, with a solid mahogany body and an AA figured maple top, giving it that classic Les Paul sustain and a little extra brightness from the maple.

  • The finish is gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, which is thinner than modern poly finishes — this helps the guitar “breathe” more, and many players believe it contributes to more resonant, lively tone.

  • The neck is mahogany, with Gibson’s SlimTaper ’60s profile: fairly fast-playing, more slender than a 50s  but still with substance.

  • The fretboard is rosewood, 12in radius, with acrylic trapezoid inlays and 22 medium-jumbo frets.

  • Hardware: ABR-1 Tune-o-Matic bridge, aluminum stop-bar tailpiece, Grover Rotomatic kidney tuners.

  • Nut: Graph Tech.

  • Comes with a hardshell case.

Electronics & Tone

  • Pickups: 60s Burstbucker set — traditionally voiced to have that vintage Les Paul character: warm, but with bite and clarity.

  • Wiring: Hand-wired circuitry, uses Orange Drop capacitors, which is a quality touch that helps tone fidelity.

  • Controls: 2 Volumes, 2 Tones, 3-way toggle.

  • The burstbuckers are AlNiCo-5 (per Riffs & Licks spec sheet) which gives a balanced classic humbucker feel — not overly aggressive, but very usable across clean and driven settings.

Playability & Feel

  • With the SlimTaper neck, the guitar feels fast and comfortable: many players report that it’s very playable for solos while still being great for rhythm work.

  • The weight: Because this model has no weight relief (i.e., it’s a solid mahogany body) , it has that classic Les Paul heft. That gives great resonance and sustain but means it’s not the lightest gigging instrument.

  • Frets and feel: The medium jumbo frets help with bending, and the rosewood board is smooth.

  • Tuning stability: The Grover tuners + Graph Tech nut contribute to reliable tuning.

Sound Character

  • Clean tones: Smooth, warm, and articulate. The Burstbucker 61R (neck) is especially sweet, delivering that “Les Paul clean” character.

  • Overdrive / Crunch: Very good , the 61T (bridge) has enough bite to push an amp nicely, and thanks to the solid body and quality pickups, you get good sustain and complexity in distortion.

  • Sustain: Because of the all-mahogany body , maple cap , set neck and classic hardware, the sustain is very good.

  • Versatility: This is not an ultra-modern metal machine , it leans more vintage-voiced, but it’s very capable for blues, rock, classic lead work, and more.

Pros

  1. Classic Les Paul feel & tone — Very faithful to the golden-era Les Paul design.

  2. High-quality construction — Solid woods, nitro finish, good hardware.

  3. Great playability — Slim-Taper neck is comfortable for long playing.

  4. Vintage-voiced humbuckers — The Burstbuckers give you the classic humbucker growl without being over the top.

  5. Left-handed option — Lefty Les Paul Standards are less common, so this is a big plus for left-handed players.

  6. Good aging potential — Nitro finish and quality woods mean it could age and resonate more over time.

Who It’s Best For

  • Left-handed players who want a true, premium Les Paul experience.

  • Players who love vintage-style Les Pauls — both in tone and feel.

  • Guitarists who value sustain and a resonant, rich tone more than ultra-light weight.

  • Recording / Studio players — its tone will sit very well in many mixes.

The 2021 Gibson Les Paul Standard ’60s Left-Hand Iced Tea is a top-tier Les Paul that nails classic design, tone, and build quality. It’s not a stripped-down budget LP — it’s a serious instrument with heritage, excellent craftsmanship, and a versatile, soulful voice. For lefties and vintage-leaning players, it’s a very strong choice: you get all the essence of the ’60s era Les Paul, but with modern build reliability.

If you're after one guitar that can do classic rock, blues, lead, and more — and you don’t mind a little extra weight — this is a fantastic pick.
