Description

This second hand vintage American built acoustic guitar is in very good condition.

All great, just a couple of light scratches on the body.

The Guild D4 NT HR stands out as one of the most characterful “working‑player” dreadnoughts Guild ever produced. Built in Westerly, Rhode Island, during the 1990s, it represents the brand’s True American era, an era known for rugged construction, warm tone, and guitars designed to be played hard and often.

The model appears across multiple listings as a 1990s USA‑made dreadnought with a solid Sitka spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and Guild’s signature arched back design, which was developed to reduce internal bracing and increase projection.

The D4 NT HR is a no‑nonsense, gig‑ready dreadnought. It’s not ornate, flashy, or boutique it’s built to deliver tone, reliability, and longevity.

Key characteristics

  • Solid Sitka spruce top for dynamic response and clarity.
  • Mahogany body offering warmth, midrange focus, and a woody character.
  • Arched back construction, a Guild hallmark, improving projection and eliminating the need for back bracing.
  • Made in Westerly, USA, a highly respected production period for Guild.
  • Dreadnought body with strong low‑end and a punchy, traditional voice.

 Tone and performance

The D4 NT HR has a sound that suits singer‑songwriters, strummers, and players who want a dependable, full‑bodied dreadnought voice.

Tonal profile

  • Warm, woody lows from the mahogany body
  • Clear, articulate mids that sit well in a mix
  • Open, responsive top end thanks to the Sitka spruce
  • Excellent projection due to the arched back design

It’s a guitar that rewards strong rhythm playing but also handles fingerstyle better than many dreadnoughts in its class.

Build quality and feel

Guild’s 1990s Westerly craftsmanship is widely praised, and the D4 NT HR reflects that reputation.

  • Solid, durable construction—these guitars were built to last decades.
  • Comfortable neck profile, typically a medium C that suits most players.
  • Natural satin finish that feels organic and opens up the tone over time.

Pros

  • Strong, balanced dreadnought tone
  • USA‑made quality at a reasonable used price
  • Arched back adds projection and structural stability
  • Durable and gig‑ready
  • Ages well, many 1990s examples sound richer today

Cons

  • Aesthetics are plain compared to higher‑end Guilds
  • No-frills appointments may feel basic to some players

The Guild D4 NT HR is one of the best value dreadnoughts from the 1990s American acoustic market. It’s a guitar built for musicians who care more about tone, reliability, and honest craftsmanship than ornate trim or branding prestige. With its solid spruce top, mahogany body, and arched back design, it delivers a warm, powerful voice that holds its own against far more expensive instruments.

If you’re looking for a dependable USA‑made dreadnought with character and history, the D4 NT HR is a superb choice.
