Description
Description
This second hand Electric guitar is in great condition.
A tiny bit of light wear/smoothing on the satin finish near the pickups
The Ibanez GRG121DX BKF is one of the best-value no-nonsense rock and metal guitars in the entire GIO lineup , stripped back, fast-playing, and built to deliver aggressive tones without the price tag.
The Ibanez GRG121DX BKF (Black Flat) is a budget-friendly RG‑style guitar aimed at beginners, intermediate players, and gigging musicians who want a reliable backup. Despite being part of the GIO series, it carries a lot of the DNA that makes Ibanez RGs so popular:
- Fast neck
- Sharp, modern styling
- High‑output humbuckers
- Lightweight, comfortable body
It’s a simple, focused instrument , no tremolo, no fancy switching, just plug in and riff.
Build & Aesthetics
Body & Finish
- Poplar body with the classic RG contours
- Black Flat finish looks stealthy and modern
- Red sharktooth inlays give it that unmistakable Ibanez metal vibe
- Lightweight and comfortable for long sessions
The finish is matte, so it hides fingerprints and wear better than gloss.
Neck
- GRG maple neck with a smooth satin feel
- Fast, slim profile inspired by the Wizard shape
- 24 medium frets on a bound purpleheart fingerboard
- Excellent upper‑fret access thanks to the RG cutaway
Pickups & Tone
The GRG121DX uses a pair of Ibanez IBZ‑6 ceramic humbuckers, voiced for rock and metal.
Tone Character
- Tight low end for palm‑muting
- Aggressive mids that cut through a mix
- Bright top end that works well with distortion
- Clean tones are usable but not the guitar’s main strength
These pickups aren’t boutique, but they’re punchy and perfectly serviceable for heavy styles.
Best Genres
- Metal
- Hard rock
- Punk
- Alt‑rock
- Djent (with the right amp/pedal)
Hardware
- Fixed bridge for rock‑solid tuning stability
- Standard Ibanez tuners (stable enough once stretched in)
- Simple 3‑way switch + volume + tone
The fixed bridge is a huge win at this price — no tremolo headaches, no tuning drift, just stability.
Playability
This is where the GRG121DX punches above its weight.
- Slim, fast neck ideal for shredding
- Low action achievable with a proper setup
- Lightweight body makes it comfortable for long rehearsals
- Fretwork is good for the price, though occasionally sharp edges appear on older used models
Build Quality
For a GIO model, it’s solid:
- Clean fretwork (usually)
- Good neck stability
- Durable matte finish
- Electronics are basic but reliable
Pros
- Fast, comfortable neck
- Aggressive humbuckers suited for heavy music
- Fixed bridge = stable tuning
- Lightweight and ergonomic
- Great value for money
- Iconic RG look with red sharktooth inlays
Who It’s For
- Beginners wanting a proper metal guitar
- Intermediate players needing a reliable practice or gigging instrument
- Guitarists who prefer fixed bridges
- Fans of the RG shape who don’t want to spend RG550 money
- Players who want a mod‑friendly platform
The Ibanez GRG121DX BKF is a killer budget metal guitar. It’s fast, comfortable, and built for distortion-heavy playing. While the pickups and hardware are basic, the core feel of the instrument is excellent , and that’s what makes it such a standout in the GIO range.
