This second hand vintage Guitar amplifier head is in very good condition
The amp has been checked and tested by a qualified electrician .
The 1985 Marshall JCM800 2203 MK2 is an iconic high-gain single-channel head, and for many players it represents the purest expression of classic rock and early metal tone. Built during the golden era of British valve amplification, this version of the 2203 delivers raw power, immediate response and that unmistakable Marshall bite that has shaped decades of recorded guitar history.
At its core, the 2203 MK2 is simplicity perfected. A single channel, master volume design means there’s nothing to get in the way of the signal path between guitar and speaker. No digital modelling, no hidden menus—just preamp gain, EQ and output level working in perfect harmony. The result is an amp that feels alive under the fingers, responding instantly to pick attack and guitar volume changes.
Powered by EL34 valves and delivering 100 watts of all-valve headroom, the 1985 MK2 has enormous stage presence. Clean tones are bold and punchy at lower gain settings, but the real magic happens as you push the preamp—where it transforms into a harmonically rich overdrive with singing sustain, tight low-end punch and that famous upper-mid aggression that cuts through any mix.
This era of the JCM800 is particularly sought after for its slightly more refined gain structure compared to earlier 2203 models, offering improved clarity while still retaining all the raw edge players expect. It excels in classic rock, hard rock and early metal, but also responds beautifully to boost pedals for modern high-gain applications.
Through a good 4x12 cabinet, the 2203 MK2 produces a huge wall of sound, tight, focused and unapologetically loud. It’s not an amp designed for bedroom volumes; it comes alive on stage or in rehearsal situations where it can breathe and interact with the room.
Pros
-
Legendary all-valve Marshall tone used on countless classic records
-
Simple, no-nonsense single-channel design
-
Huge dynamic response and touch sensitivity
-
Powerful EL34-driven output with excellent projection
-
Tight, focused overdrive with rich harmonic content
-
Extremely pedal-friendly (especially with boosts and EQ pedals)
The Marshall JCM800 2203 MK2 (1985) is a benchmark. It defined the sound of hard rock and metal in the 1980s and remains one of the most respected high-gain tube heads ever made. For players who value raw dynamics, simplicity and authentic British valve roar, it remains an unbeatable choice.
Whether you're chasing classic arena rock tones or pushing it into heavier territory with pedals, this amp delivers a level of immediacy and authority that modern modelling systems still struggle to replicate.
