This combination of design and tuning gives the Ozark mandolele a unique voice and makes it highly playable for those transitioning from guitar.
The Ozark 2260WN is an all‑solid wood A‑model mandolele tuned AECG — meaning the three lower courses are in octaves, giving a fuller, mandolin‑like sound while still being familiar for ukulele and guitar players. It has a wide 37 mm nut width and a compact 350 mm scale, making it comfortable, especially if you’re coming from guitar or ukulele backgrounds.
📌 Key Features
Hybrid design: Combines the bright, punchy character of a mandolin with the accessible tuning and playability of a uke‑like instrument.
Solid hand‑carved spruce top & solid mahogany back/sides: These tonewoods promote warmth, projection and resonance that improve over time as the instrument opens up.
Wide neck (37 mm): More comfortable string spacing helps with chords and fingerstyle, easing the transition for guitarists in particular.
Adjustable ebony bridge: Allows fine‑tuning of intonation for better tuning accuracy across the neck.
Gold‑plated hardware: Adds a premium look and smooth tuning stability.
AECG course tuning: Lower three courses in octaves provide a distinctive, full, and lively sound that’s more mandolin‑like than a simple baritone uke.
👍 Pros
🎸 Guitar‑Friendly Playability
The wider neck and familiar scale make this great for guitarists or uke players who want to explore mandolin textures without needing to learn tuning in fifths.
🎵 Rich Acoustic Tone
The combination of solid spruce and mahogany gives you balanced warmth with clear treble and good presence, making it versatile for folk, acoustic sessions or layering in recordings.
🎼 Comfortable Feel
The 37 mm nut and shorter scale are easier on the left hand, reducing fatigue and making chord shapes and fingerpicking patterns smoother to play.
🎨 Construction Quality
Hand‑carved solid top and quality components (adjustable bridge, gold‑plated tuners) make this feel more refined than many budget mandoleles.
👎 Cons
🔊 Niche Instrument
The mandolele is a crossover instrument — not a traditional mandolin and not a traditional uke — so if you’re strictly after a classic mandolin tone or a standard uke sound, it won’t perfectly match either.
