Description
Description
The Ozark 2242E is a solid wood octave‑range mandola tuned typically G‑D‑A‑E (one octave below a mandolin) — perfect for players who want a deeper, richer voice than a mandolin but still familiar tuning and feel. It’s a flat‑back body with a satin finish and Celtic knot decoration, fitted with built‑in electronics (pickup + EQ) so you can plug straight into an amp or PA for live or recorded playing.
Key Specs:
Solid spruce top for clear articulation and dynamic response.
Solid mahogany back & sides for warmth and resonance.
Artec transducer + onboard EQ for amplified performance straight into acoustic amps or mixers.
510 mm scale length — traditional octave mandola sizing with comfortable tension.
20 frets, mahogany neck and Ovangkol fingerboard.
Celtic soundhole design and matching inlays for a classic folk look.
Gig bag included for easy travel (padded).
👍 Pros
🎶 Warm, Deep Acoustic Tone
Thanks to the all‑solid construction (spruce top + mahogany body), this instrument produces a rich, resonant voice that sits beautifully in the lower register — excellent for folk, Celtic, and acoustic ensemble settings. It’s deeper than a standard mandola and adds fullness to arrangements.
🎸 Plug‑and‑Play Amplification
The built‑in Artec transducer pickup and EQ let you go straight into an amplifier or PA without needing aftermarket pickups or external mics. This makes it gig‑ready and practical for live performance or recording.
🎨 Visual & Build Appeal
The Celtic knot soundhole and matching fretboard inlays give it a distinctive traditional look, while the satin‑finished wood shows off the natural materials — attractive for acoustic and folk performers.
📦 Comfortable Playability
The 510 mm scale and traditional fretboard layout make this easier to play than larger octave instruments for many players transitioning from mandolin, guitar or mandola.
🧳 Gig Bag Provided
A padded cover is included, which adds value and convenience for transport and storage — useful for lessons, rehearsals, and small gigs.
👎 Cons
🔉 Acoustic Projection Isn’t Huge
As a flat‑back instrument, it won’t project as loudly or as visibly as carved‑top or higher‑end octave mandolas in larger acoustic spaces. That’s typical of this body style, but worth knowing if you rely on unamplified volume.
