Sheeran By Lowden W04 W-Series Electro-Acoustic Guitar

The Sheeran by Lowden W04 is a premium compact electro-acoustic guitar that combines the craftsmanship of Lowden with a design developed around the playing needs of singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. Handmade in Northern Ireland, the W04 sits at the top of the original W Series range, offering carefully selected tonewoods, refined construction and professional onboard electronics in a comfortable, travel-friendly format. With its striking figured walnut back and sides, solid spruce top and elegant natural finish, it is a distinctive instrument designed for players who want exceptional sound and portability without compromising on quality.

At the heart of the W04 is a solid Sitka spruce top, paired with five-piece figured walnut back and sides. This combination produces a clear, articulate acoustic voice with excellent note separation, balanced projection and a rich harmonic character. The spruce top responds well to different playing dynamics, making it equally suitable for delicate fingerpicking and more energetic strumming. The walnut body adds definition and warmth, helping individual notes remain clear while giving chords a satisfying depth. Lowden's carefully developed bracing further contributes to the instrument's resonance and responsiveness.

One of the W04's defining characteristics is its compact Wee Lowden body shape. Designed to offer excellent comfort without sacrificing tonal quality, the smaller body makes it particularly appealing to travelling musicians, performers and songwriters who prefer a guitar that is easy to handle for extended playing sessions. Its 24-inch scale length provides a comfortable playing experience, with a slightly shorter reach that can make chord changes and stretches feel more manageable. A mahogany neck and smooth ebony fingerboard complement the compact dimensions, while the soundbox bevel provides additional comfort where the guitar rests against the player's strumming arm.

The attention to detail continues throughout the instrument's construction. The figured walnut is individually distinctive, giving each guitar its own natural appearance, while the ebony fingerboard and bridge contribute to the premium feel. The understated wood-inlay rosette and carefully finished body reflect the understated elegance associated with Lowden instruments. Rather than relying on elaborate decoration, the W04 allows the quality and natural beauty of its materials to take centre stage.

For live performance and recording, the W04 is equipped with an LR Baggs EAS VTC pickup system. This allows the guitar to be connected directly to an acoustic amplifier, PA system or recording setup, making it suitable for everything from intimate acoustic performances to larger stages. The onboard volume and tone controls provide convenient adjustment of the amplified sound, helping players find a suitable balance for different venues and musical styles. The system complements the guitar's natural acoustic character, offering a practical solution for performers who need reliable amplification without sacrificing portability.

Combining premium tonewoods, refined Lowden craftsmanship and a highly practical design, the Sheeran by Lowden W04 is an impressive electro-acoustic guitar for serious players. Its compact proportions make it particularly suited to songwriting, travelling and everyday playing, while the solid spruce and figured walnut construction delivers a sophisticated, articulate tone. With its comfortable soundbox bevel, quality ebony appointments and LR Baggs electronics, the W04 offers a compelling blend of boutique character and professional versatility. A supplied Sheeran-branded gig bag completes the package, making it a superb choice for musicians who want a high-quality acoustic instrument that is ready to travel and perform.
