Description

This vintage second hand guitar amp is in very good condition.

Front grill has been removed , otherwise very good condition for its age .

The Vox V15 is a somewhat rare and vintage tube amplifier from the 1980s, delivering classic British tube tone in a compact and gig-friendly package. While not as widely known as some of Vox’s legendary AC series, the V15 still holds a special place among vintage amp enthusiasts for its warm, rich cleans and smooth overdrive.

Build Quality & Design

The Vox V15 has a classic Vox aesthetic, with a black tolex covering, gold piping, and the iconic diamond grille cloth. It has a 15-watt all-tube design, making it loud enough for rehearsals and small gigs while still being manageable for home use. The build quality is solid, as expected from vintage Vox amps, though given its age, units on the used market may require some maintenance or servicing.

Tone & Sound Quality

The V15 is pure classic Vox in its tonal character, offering chimey cleans, articulate mids, and a smooth, harmonically rich overdrive. Thanks to its EL84 power tubes, the amp delivers that signature Vox brightness and sparkle, perfect for jangly chords, bluesy leads, and classic rock tones.

  • Clean Tones: The clean tones are warm and chimey, with plenty of clarity, making it great for styles like jazz, blues, and indie rock.
  • Overdrive: Pushing the amp results in a natural, creamy overdrive with great touch sensitivity. It breaks up beautifully, offering vintage-style grit without sounding harsh.
  • EQ & Controls: The V15 has basic but effective tone controls, usually including volume, gain, treble, mid, and bass knobs, allowing for some tonal shaping while still keeping things simple.

Performance & Use Cases

At 15 watts, the V15 strikes a balance between home use, recording, and small gigs. While not as loud as a Vox AC30, it still packs enough punch for rehearsals and smaller venues, especially when mic’d. The amp shines in classic rock, blues, indie, and pop settings, delivering those signature British tones without overwhelming volume.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Classic Vox tube tone with warm cleans and smooth overdrive
  • Great balance of power—ideal for home, studio, and small gigs
  • EL84 tube warmth for vintage-style sound
  • Simple, no-nonsense controls for easy use

Cons:

  • Rare and harder to find on the used market
  • Limited tonal flexibility compared to modern amps with more features
  • Might require maintenance due to its vintage nature

The Vox V15 is a fantastic choice for players who love vintage Vox tones in a smaller, more manageable amp. While it may not have the name recognition of the AC15, it still delivers warm, responsive tube-driven sound that’s perfect for classic rock, blues, and indie players. If you can find one in good condition, it's a great piece of gear with serious vintage charm.
