Description

This second hand pedal is in very good condition

This is the chunky, early‑2000s style unit with red casing and dual footswitches: The original Zoom B1 is a no‑nonsense, ultra‑affordable multi‑effects pedal that gave bassists a huge range of sounds long before budget multi‑FX became mainstream. It’s simple, rugged, and surprisingly musical for its age. While it doesn’t have the fidelity or flexibility of modern units, it still holds up as a practice tool, travel pedal, or starter effects box.

 Sound Quality

Effects

  • Around 40 bass‑focused effects, including compression, chorus, flanger, octave, synth, and envelope filter.
  • The compressor and modulation effects are the standouts — warm, smooth, and very usable.
  • Distortions are a bit fizzy by modern standards, but still fun and workable in a mix.
  • Synth patches are primitive but charming in that early‑digital way.

Amp Models

  • Includes several amp/cab simulations based loosely on Ampeg, Fender, and Hartke tones.
  • Not hyper‑realistic, but great for headphone practice or quick DI sessions.

Tone Verdict

The B1 sounds better than it has any right to for its age and price. It’s not hi‑fi, but it’s musical, punchy, and easy to dial in.

Features & Tools

Even the original B1 packed a surprising amount of functionality:

  • Built‑in drum machine with simple but useful patterns
  • Tuner
  • Headphone output
  • Battery or 9V power
  • 40 preset patches + 40 user patches
  • Dual footswitches for patch navigation

No looper on this early model, but for its time it was still feature‑rich.

 Build Quality & Usability

  • Sturdy plastic enclosure — not metal, but tougher than it looks.
  • Large, easy‑to-read display.
  • Editing patches is simple once you learn the menu flow.
  • Buttons and footswitches are reliable even after years of use.

Pros

  • Extremely affordable
  • Good core effects (comp, chorus, filter)
  • Great practice tool
  • Simple and reliable
  • Surprisingly musical amp models

Cons

  • Early‑digital sound on some effects
  • Distortions can be thin or harsh
  • Limited editing depth compared to modern units

 Who It’s Best For

  • Bassists wanting a cheap, effective practice pedal
  • Beginners exploring effects for the first time
  • Players needing a backup multi‑FX
  • Anyone who appreciates early Zoom digital tones

The original Zoom B1 is a classic budget multi‑effects pedal that still earns respect today. It’s simple, musical, and packed with enough tools to make practice fun and productive. While it can’t compete with modern processors in realism or depth, it remains a fantastic value and a great piece of kit for bassists who want versatility without spending much.
